Sensory Substitution Device helps the blind to see
This technology first developed only in fiction films. Through Film Star Trek: The Next Generation, we are told that an aircraft technician Enterprise named Jordy LaForge, who are blind from birth, but still can see thanks to a gadget or tool of the virtual vision visionary mounted alias like Stevie Wonders glasses.
However, the present technology of fiction it is now likely to become reality. A team from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, led by Dr. Amir Amedi has developed a technology that has actually been invented 20 years ago by researchers Dr. Peter Meijer. The device, named Sensory Substitution Device (tool replacement sensor), Dr. Peter Meijer algorithm uses the technique with the wave system to translate the position and shape of an object with certain tones, which makes people who are blind are able to know the shape and position of an object.
Thanks to research by Drs. Meijer, the Hebrew University team are now developing the technology is amazing, is creating a tool that will make the visual cortex of people blind from birth could capture signals that can be interpreted by the brain as the shape and position, or the language in a nutshell:
tool to help the blind can see.
Dr. Amedi writing in the journal Cerebral Cortex that the results of his research found that the visual cortex in the eyes of the data set is divided into two paths. The first path is called the ventral occipito-temporal, functional flow of information relating to the form, identity, and color to the brain. The second path is called the dorsal occipito-parietal function sends data about the location of visual objects and coordinate data with motor function.
With this theory, a team of Herbew University is able to create a tool like the glasses that make the blind “really” see. MRI scan results show that blind people who use such tools can have a vision like a normal person.
From the results of such research, Dr. Amedi aberpendapat that: “The brain is not a sensory machine, but rather a machine Tasks / Task Machine.”
Later it seems this tool will be developed to help people who are blind to be able to see the beautiful world, seeing the flowers are stunning, and read the words written quotes.
